|I'm doing research for an article on live music agencies. Keen to understand different opinions on the role of live music agencies and whether it is worth joining them in the hope of obtaining larger, better paid gigs. |
Considering that it does not cost to join an agency - rather the agency usually tends to pick the bands - and the only cost comes from the cut an agency takes from the gig.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
From my own experience, the best method in finding and securing regular gigs is to combine both; a trusted agency with a proven track record you can verify plus your own research, cold-calling and introducing yourself to potential venues in person, or if necessary with a quality EPK (Electronic Press Kit) emailed to them after getting their permission to do so.
There's an old saying regarding opportunities in that 'you should never wait for your ship to come in, you should always go and swim out to it.'
Being proactive, always maintaining a professional attitude and being politely persistent are the key decisive factors in getting anything worthwhile in life.
Best of luck with your article,
