I've had this tune stuck in my head for quite some time, and have been looking around the internet for it, but can't find it anywhere.  It goes approximately like this: http://nicol.chendo.net/unknown.MID

Sorry for the dodginess of the MIDI, but that's the best I can do with my poor memory.

If someone could point me in the direction of the piece/composer/anything I'd be very grateful, thanks.

Being a composer, I often have melodies floating in my mind, which are nowhere except my head (and then written down).
Often, I am unaware that I've conciously created these melodies.
Maybe the 1st movement of Rachmoninoff's 1st Piano Concerto will have an interest to you?
