"After work, Late at night" for orchestra. I wrote it for piano originally but I decided to orchestrate it as well because more and more ideas started to pop up in my head, what else than can I do than writing them down!

After work, Late at night: mp3
After work, Late at night: score pdf

Hi Andre,

Very nice indeed.......the string arrangement is very good indeed and sounds very authentic.
Some of the other instruments do not sound as good but it is still a very good arrangement.
If I could give you some feedback it would be use only the instruments that sound authentic and not the ones that do not.........that way your music will sound much more professional to the trained ear.
I work with only 3 or 4 instruments and I make sure they are the best samples available or I just don't use them........because it make the music sound unconvincing somehow.

I hope that helps a little

Best wishes with your future projects

Hi Al,
thanks for the comment. I always try to use the best samples as possible but sometimes I cannot find good ones. These samples are all from the Jam pack Orchestral. And I believe I mixed it with some solo instruments from soundfont I bought on cd some years ago. What do you use yourself for sampling?

André

Hi Andre,

Sorry for the very late reply. I have not been on Musicians Page for months so please forgive me for the very late reply!

My basic setup is an Apple Imac i7 Quad Core.
I work with Logic Pro 9 as my recording software.
My main samples are from East West Quantum Leap and Spectrasonics.
Check out Omnisphere !!  Awesome sounds a perfectly integrates into Logic or any of the main platforms like pro tools, digital performer etc etc.

Regarding interfaces for taking in vocals and guitar etc I use Apogee Symphony IO.......the AD/DA converters are just amazingly clear!

For on the move live performance I use a Mac Book Pro with an RME babyface going into Logic.
I hope that helps a little.
Warm Regards
Al

Hi Al,
no problem, actually I forgot about this post, it is a while, you are right.
For 2 months now, I am working on a 27 inch iMac, Intel Core i5 with 16 GB ram and I am using the Sonivox Complete Orchestral Collection library and Komplete 7 for my music. Things changed! I am working with Logic 9 studio as well, nice change from Garageband.

It takes a while to get used to new software and I want to rerecord my 2nd symphony ( I still have to write the 1 movement, but the other 3 are scored), but to get to know the Sonivox package, I decided to record a small piece first. This morning I recorded the last parts, percussion and brass, so now it's a matter of mixing. What isn't always that easy, I am still trying to get a good routine for this. (Maybe you have some tips on orchestral mixing?)

I am working in Lion OSX, love it, but for now, Kontakt 4 isn't compatible yet in 64 bit mode under Lion, I hope they will change this soon.

Thanks for the respond, Al, it's nice to exchange ideas.

Best wishes,

André
