Curriculum Vitae Julien Matei

Julien Matei was born in Romania on February 22, 1963.

His father, who was a pianist at the Ploiesti City Theatre, began giving Julien piano lessons when he was five. Julien held his first concert at the age of six, and at seven he was enrolled in a school of music. After he had finished his studies in 1981 he defected to Sweden.

In 1983 he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, where he took the solo piano class for Gunnar Hallhagen. He graduated in 1988, playing Rachmaninov's third piano concerto.

In 1990, Julien was awarded a scholarship from St Cecilia's Academy of Music in Rome, Italy, where he studied for six months. He has also studied for Peter Feuchwanger in London, England.

Julien Matei has held many concerts in Sweden, and has been recorded for Swedish Radio and Television. His first concert in Paris, France, was held in 1989, and in 1992 he made his London-debut. He also performed in Italy, Germany, Greece and the USA.

In 1991-92, Julien collaborated with Nicolai Gedda.

During 1996 the CD Naissance with his own music was published at Arietta Music.

Julien has worked closely with the conductor Ragnar Bohlin on various productions, among them Bach's Double Concerto, and Orff's Carmina Burana. He has also played with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Choir of the Swedish National Radio has performed works of Julien.

During 2001 and 2002, Julien worked with the Romanian Radio producing programs concerning culture and aesthetics. He also worked with film music at the Romanian TV.

During 2003 and 2004 performances at Berns Salonger in Stockholm.

During 2004 and 2006 working in Cyprus -

Between 2006 and 2008 working for Stockholms stad “musik i vĂ¥rden”

2008-2009 working with Romanian Radio also writing film music for Romanian TV-

2010 his compositions widely played in the Swedish Radio. Different piano recitals in Sweden, Greece and Romania.

Julien plays everything from Bach to the contemporary repertoire, but has a special love for the music of Alexander Scriabin.

Julien is fluent in English, Swedish, French, Italian and speaks also German and Greek.
