      Massimo Cavalli (Double Bass and Electric Bass, composer and arranger)

I was born in Italy in 1969 where I started studying electric bass with Flavio Piantoni and Enzo lo Greco and double bass, composition and jazz improvisation with Paolino Dalla Porta. Moved to live in Portugal in 1996, I studied jazz double bass at Oporto University (Portugal) and I got my degree in 2006 and the Master in Jazz in 2011. I started my professional activity as a musician in 1990, in different clubs in Northen Italy. I played in Dubai with Four Winds Quartet and I also worked with the American singer Trisha Smith. In March 1996 I participated to the young musician Jazz contest in Krakow (Poland) and the same year I recorded with the group Consorzio Acqua Potabile. Among all collaboration I would like to here remember groups and artists such as: Fiçcões, Laurent Filipe, Melissa Walker, Fernando Tordo, Amelia Muge, Jacinta & Michael Bluestein, Ala dos Namorados, Joel Xavier, Filipe Melo, Politonia etc. I attended the jazz workshop at Jazz em Agosto directed by Phil Markowitz, Ed Neumeister and Arnie Lawrence, the double bass masterclass conducted by William Parker, the masterclass oriented by Peter Erskine. I also played in several festivals like as : Avignon (France) and Oeiras Jazz Fest with the Ruben Alves Quintet; Porto 2001 Festival, Culturgest, Vigo (Spain) Music Fest with Laurent Filipe; 6th Matosinhos Jazz, Aula Magna, 2th Curitiba (Brazil) Jazz Fest and 7 sois 7 luas Music Festival, 4th Portalegre Jazz Fest CompoJazz 2007 with Ficcoes; Sintra As Grandes Damas do Jazz, Gaia Blues Festival, Aveiro 2003 Music Fest with Jacinta; 2003 Lagoa Jazz Festival with Melissa Walker and Antonio Palma Trio; Festival Il Portogallo Catania (Italy) with Amelia Muge; 9th Festival Jazz aux Oudayas (Moroccos) with guitarist Joel Xavier; Mafra Cultural Summer 2004 with Joel Xavier and Didier Lockwood; 17th Macao Arts Festival with Ala dos Namorados and The Chinese Macao Orquestra; French-Portuguese Institute and OndaJazz Club with Jean Pierre Como Quartet. I currently teach jazz double bass at Lusíada University in Lisbon and double bass, electric bass and Jazz Combo at Escola de Jazz Luiz Villas-Boas in Lisbon. I played with pop singer Susana Félix, Alex Diniz Quartet (Jazz), Laurent Filipe "Song Band" (Jazz) and Project "Rua da Saudade" (Pop/Rock). I just recorded my first CD with original compositions.
