David Johnstone is considered one of the most creative and interesting string players in the Iberian peninsula today, combining a career as a wide-ranging cellist with composition. He shows a great versatility which enables him to work and participate in many, and very varied musical activities. He is a member of the international concert trio "B3 CLASSIC", winners of a grand prix in the Chamber Music section of the Pierre Lantier International competition (Paris), and CDs for Warner Music. Although British by birth and formally working in British orchestras (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, English String Orchestra etc.) he has, for over a decade, been principal cellist of the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra' of Spain.

He is a composer with a specialization for string instruments and/or lighter classical musical writing. His original music has been heard in more than 30 countries. Many published works by Creighton's Collection (www.cccd.co.uk), his own web also includes many free downloads of original scores, 150 transcriptions for cellists, and numerous articles relating to general musical themes and others more specifically for the Cello. All downloads are always FREE. There is a new Directory of some 600 Famous Historical cellists, and in 2010 free audio MP3 downloads of virtuoso and other cello repertoire will be brought forward - most not available in any other web page.

His latest original compositions include ‘The Four Seasons' for Solo Violin and String Orchestra, a Pop-Classic Cello Concerto, an Accordion concerto, a Double Concertante for Solo Violin, solo Cello and orchestra, many individual String Quartet pieces based on European regions, and a great number of works for the Accordion repertoire (especially for the medium-level students). He also specializes in writing String Orchestral pieces that are well within the capabilities of youth and conservatoire orchestras. Within the cello world, his manual ‘Cadenzas and Cadences', and the great variety of published ‘well playable' virtuoso solo cello pieces, are considered some of the most valuable contemporary contributions in this field.
