Marit Skikkelstad Resume

      Marit Skikkelstad, BA/GRNCM PP/RNCM PG/RNCM, was born in 1978 in Gjøvik, Norway. She started to play the trombone at the age of 8. She went to study at the Music department at Tranberg Videregående in 1994. In 1997, Marit went on to study for one year at Manger Folkhighschool on their prestigious Brass Band course. The same year she was also a member of the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra.
The following year she accepted a place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where she studied with Christopher Houlding, John Iveson and Andrew Berryman.
Whilst studying there, she won the 2nd prize in The Valve Warwick Music National Trombone Competition in April 2001. After 5 years at the RNCM, she went to France to study with Jacques Mauger at the Conservatoire Superieur de Paris for 2 years.
In 2002, Marit performed in Switzerland with the renowned trombonist Christian Lindberg and trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger performing a show piece written for 7 musicians, called Ballade of Kit Bones.

Marit has also frequently played principal and second trombone in performances, radio/tv broadcasts and recordings with professional orchestras and ensembles such as the Halle orchestra, Liverpool Sinfonia, Welsh Chamber orchestra, Teatro Reggio di Torino, Roma di Latzio, Orchestre Francais Alberic Magnard, Jules Vernes Orchestra, Leonardo de VINCI Opera, Orchestre de la Trinite, Bilkent Symphony orchestra, Algarve Chamber Orchestra, Remix ensemble, Bones Apart trombone quartet and concerts in Italy with International Bones Quartet where one of the members was the French trombonist Jaques Mauger.
The most recent cd recording she has appeared on is on Martine Lund Hoels Cd; "Hidden Shores", realized in desember 2008.

Currently Marit is based in Norway, Gjøvik. She is working as a freelance trombonist and is often performing as a soloist with symphony orchestras and Wind bands, as well as church performances accompanied by church organ,piano or a band.
She is also a member of a jazz trio consisting of A.Byfuglien/piano, Siv.E. Otherhals/vocal and Marit/trombone.

She teatches trombonists and lower brass at Gjøvik Vdg school, and Nordre land Kultural School, and the brass in Kolbu wind orchestra as well as being hired in for weekend brass seminars.
