Molly Barnes Resume
| Molly Barnes was born in 1987 in Charlotte, NC, and grew up in Davidson, NC. She graduated from Davidson College in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa). She has studied violin principally with Paul Huppert and Martha Koljonen. In addition she has studied with Burton Kaplan (Magic Mountain Music Farm Practice Marathon Retreat 2006) and Carolyn Stuart (Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival 2007). Since attending the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, VT and the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy in Wintergreen, VA (summers 2008, 2009, 2010) she has become a lover and promoter of chamber music.
Molly is a frequent vocal and violin performer at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, as well as at area weddings and other events. She has been a member of the church's Geneva Choir for 13 years, and has sung with the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, the group that performs choral/orchestral masterworks with the Charlotte Symphony. She is frequently contracted to play for cantata performances in the Charlotte region. For two summers she has played in the orchestra pit for the town community theatre productions of "Carousel" and "Little Women." Molly organized and maintained a student string quartet at Davidson College, a group that performed for 3 years. In addition she was a member of the college symphony orchestra for 4 years and the college concert choir for 3 years. She has premiered 7 new pieces of chamber music in various settings. Molly's musical interests also extend to the scholarly study of music, which she pursued in college avidly. She is particularly fascinated by music and cultural hierarchy and the future of "classical" music in the twenty-first century. She hopes to combine her love of music history with her desire to preserve the great music of the past, in order that this music may be enjoyed and appreciated by a greater proportion of people, and not just the musically educated. Molly is currently pursuing an M.A./Ph.D. in musicology (music history) at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. | ||
