B. Shree Sundarkumar is one of the leading musicians in the world of Rhythm. Thumping into the Musical world at a tender age of 3, Sundarkumar has been mesmerizing the audience with his immaculate style and innate creativity, since then. Born into a family of Music and Literature, rhythm flows in his blood. After the initial tutelage under his father, a well-known Mridangist -Vidwan Dr.K B S Mani, he had his formal training on the Mridangam from Mastero Guru Kaaraikudi Sri R Mani.
Born in the year 1982 to Dr. K. B. S. Mani & Smt A. S. Vijayalakshmi,
B. Shree Sundarkumar has established himself as one of the foremost Laya Vadhya Artists of our time with a high reputation. Under his Parents' able guidance,
Shree Sundarkumar joined the Gurukula at the tender age of 6. He is an ‘A' Grade Artist in the All India Radio.
Guru Karaikudi Mani, also spotted the thirst of playing the Kanjira in him. Sundarkumar was zapped by the seeing the performances of Kanjira Mastero Kalaimamani Sri G Hari Shankar. He was inspired to play the instrument after listening to such concerts. Rigorous practice and proper guidance from Guru Karaikudi Mani has got him a place in the field of Kanjira.
His ease of fingering on the Kanjira will make one wonder that playing the Kanjira is not difficult, which is not the case, as the Artist have to produce the same laya patterns & speed with one hand. His power, speed, rhythmic complexity, and beauty in phrasing are a wonder to watch. His passion is to spread the Kanjira to the nook and corner of Rhythm World.
With the blessings of his Guru, Shree Sundarkumar has adapted well to his new instrument much to the awe of everyone in the music circle. He was immediately accredited with a ‘B High' grade at All India Radio for Kanjira.
His talent has not only made him play his instruments in India but also abroad. His first concert was in Malaysia, where he accompanied many Thaala Vaadhya exponents alongside his Guru in a Percussion Ensemble. Many prominent Vidhwans and Vidhushis favoured Shree Sundarkumar's style of playing and he was given the opportunity to accompany many stalwarts in the Carnatic Music field. His performances include lot of Jugalbandis & Fusion Music. He has extensively toured in India and across the world to accompany Senior Musicians.
He has been one of the most sought after Kanjira Artist by leading Artists such as Guru Kaaraikkudi Sri R. Mani (Mridangam), Umayalpuram Sri Sivaraman (Mridangam), Dr. T. K.
