Laurie (fly) A J Williams Resume
| Laurie is most noted for hercut-to-the-heart poetic lyrics. She is heavily influenced by the political and poetic songwriters of the 60's, such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell and their ilk. She is a recognized poet and lyricist.
Laurie pursued studies both nationally and internationally in musical theater and
opera. She holds degrees in theater, Music and English from the
University of Denver and wrote her first song in the first grade. She has won
nationally acclaimed awards (i.e., Rod Serling Writer's Competition, NewWriter's Award, Trailblazers Literary magazine) for her creative writing and was honored by having their song, "Between Iraq and a Hard Place" written up and played during 'PEACE WEEK' at the University of Denver, Laurie's alma mater. During that week, every living recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize was in residence for a conference and it was indeed a humbling honor.
My husband Rick is a brilliant composer, arranger, vocalist and guitarist. I am the words and he is the music. Together we have had
2 songs contributed to a UK national project, "Children In Need"and "Children For a Better World". They are the equivalent of our country's largest telethons. British recording artist, James Martyn sang their songs over the BBC
and at many live performances sponsored by the BBC. The event was enormously successful and the proceeds from the fundraiser brought their name as songwriters to the attention of the BBC.
Our music is now being played in the UK and on Radio stations in Belgium, soap operas in Finnland and background scores in other entertainment venues internationally. We were commissioned by the Arizona, Phoenix Children's Hospital "Emily Foundation" to write a song for their annual
fundraiser. The song, "It's Magical" helped the foundation raise thousands of
dollars. The song was also used by a junior ice skater for NY state Jr. Women's competition.
Rick and I have been involved in many collaborative efforts and contributed a song that has been published and recorded on an accompanying CD for the book, "APrimer for Us Working Souls", by M. L. Stevens.
Laurie and Rick have served judging panels for prestigious
US based songwriting contests.
Their lullaby, 'Ava's Lullaby' had been in the number 1 and 2 spot for the over 6 months at Broadjam in the childrens catagory, and they have charted at the top with 4 more of their songs in country, folk, bluegrass and adult contemporary.
As a lyricist I am always looking for composers for recording songs outside of Rick's and my usual genres. Presently I am looking for composers of rock and edgy pop music.
They are both members of ASCAP
and NSAI. For further information, visit their web site at
