Description: | Description:The genre "impromptu" first appeared in 1817. Many composers used the title "impromptu" in their work such as Czerny, Kalkbrenner, Moscheles, Vorisek, Schubert... but few had a clear construction of the form. Kenneth DeLong after analyzing the impromptus of Vorisek and Schubert concludes that even Schubert did not name his first set of impromptus and he just happened to name the second set the title "impromptus", which in his mind meant "piano pieces" or "characteristic pieces" composed occasionally. Given the genre was developed individually and gradually, there however was association of Chopin's impromptu Op.66 with Schubert's impromptu Op.90 No.2 and Moscheles' impromptu Op.80. |
