      Born in Bury Lancashire 1st December 1937.

Taught in Derbyshire 1956-1958

St Edmund Hall Oxford 1958 - 1963. BA in 1961 (first) Post Grad till 1963. Most of time at Uni spent working in theatre.
Teachers were Bernard Rose (Harmony &Counterpoint) Egon Wellesz and Frank Harrison (History).
3month Italian Government Scholarship 1962 attending Petrassi's Master Class in Rome. First acknowledged pieces date from this time.

Worked for WEA based in Harlow 1963-1964 then replaced Wilfrid Mellers as Staff Tutor at Birmingham University Extra Mural Dept. Also taught in the Music department. Moved to Suffolk in 1968 and lived there ever since. Employment until 1990 was mostly in Universities and Residences - Essex, Kings College Cambridge, UCSB (California) Royal Academy.

Commissions from Aldeburgh Festival, BBC, Cheltenham Festival, National Federation of Music Societies, English National Opera, Finchley Childrens Music Group, Melos Ensemble, CBSO, Halle, LSO, RPO, SCO. Also worked with Gabrieli String Quartet, Rohan de Saram, Sarah Francis, Richard Adeney and Alexander Baille all of whom commissioned works.

1990 to 2003 worked as a computer programmer and composed very little. After retirement, restarted by writing a few songs and since 2008 has returned to fulltime composition.

Most work up to 1990 is published by The Oxford University Press - self published since.
