Sugar & Spice Bio
Sugar & Spice is a Jazz Trio from the Wilderness/George area in the Western Cape of South Africa. Primarily a show band, their speciality is sophisticated, easy listening, gentle Standard Jazz with touches of Latin rhythms. You will hear many of the old Jazz favourites in their repertoire. Members of Sugar & Spice often switch instruments to add a different flavour as well as sing in 3 part harmonies on occasion. Their signature is their intricate arrangements. They perform frequently on the Garden Route, particularly at Home Concerts, which is like having a theatre performance in the comfort of your home. Other notable performances have been at the George Jazz Exposé, Bistro Celeiro and the 5 Star Luxury Hotels and Resorts like Benguela Lakeside Spa & Lodge, Conrad Pezula in Knysna as well as many private functions. More recently the performed at the Wilderness Cheese and Wine Festival. Their music is for the discerning listener and can very easily be adjusted to suit a quite Dinner, Dinner/Theatre/Dance atmosphere, Corporate Event or Weddings. About the Band Cecily Pepler – Vocal Stylist and band leader A Professional Jazz Vocal Stylist since 1996 in the genre of Standard Jazz. Cecily has 3 independently released albums: “Since I Fell For You”, “Song For A Stranger” and “If It's Magic”. Many of her recordings are featured regularly by various presenters in the Jazz Lounge sector of a local radio station, Fine Music Radio 101.3 which is also accessed internationally via Live Streaming. She has featured as a guest artist on albums by other musicians. Almost all stage performances have been within the upmarket private sector, Wine Estates and Corporate events. The number of musicians she has worked with has ranged from duo acoustic ensemble, trios, quartets to 6 piece band, with many very well-known and respected musicians in South Africa. In addition, she has also worked with seasoned musicians in Florida, USA, mostly in the private sector. She had the honour of performing in Mauritius on Bastille Day, and 3 times over 3 month periods in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Ricardo Muller - Piano & Keyboards, Bass & Backing Vocals Rico is a self-taught, full-time musician as well as a music teacher at the local church of his community and part time arranger. In addition, he makes backing tracks for other performers. He has arranged and produced 2 albums for upcoming artists and is currently busy with a 3rd album. His primary instrument is the piano. Other instruments that he plays are guitar and bass guitar. Although Rico has composed a few original songs, he is able to play many different styles, but his first love is for Jazz. Soppie Thyse – Bass, Guitar, Piano & Backing Vocals Jumario (otherwise known as Soppie) is a self-taught musician. He started playing drums at the age of 14 but focused his attention on guitar at 16. At the age of 19, Soppie taught himself to play bass and piano and has never looked back. He has worked with many local artists developing his craft over the years.He was part of the opening act for the well-known South African band Prime Circle. Soppie recently appeared in Joe Foster's music video. His roots are from Gospel Music, but he is proficient in all styles, particularly Jazz Funk. He has composed many songs for bass guitar, which often get included in performances. | ||
