Sherry Dukes
Soprano Sherry Dukes has performed on concert, recital, and opera stages throughout the United States, Europe, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, and Asia. Described as…“soprano with impressively large voice, warm timbre and dark quality…uses the shading of the voice intelligently and technically.” She has appeared with the San Diego Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Opera Bastille in Paris, New York Harlem Production Co., and the Teatro Real Theatre in Madrid and La Scala in Milan. The artist performed in a joint collaboration for the premiere of the National Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The versatility of Ms. Dukes as an artist has led to invitations to perform for dignitaries and occasions such as the Annual Presidential Address for the Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation and the Trumpet Awards – Salute to Black Achievement. Appearances with other artists would include the late operatic bass-baritone William Warfield, and world-renowned opera soprano, Jessye Norman. She can be heard on a CD-recording of the Verdi Requiem and has performed under the batons of several international conductors, including Grammy Award winners, John DeMain and the late Robert Shaw. The native Atlantan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Spelman College, a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University, and has pursued Doctoral studies in Vocal Performance at the University of Miami. Ms. Dukes is the Music Specialist at University Community Academy and the CEO and Founder of SherEssence Academy of Musical Arts LLC in Atlanta. | ||
