Kenneth Brooks Resume
Although his primary instrument is the Guitar, Kenny Brooks(Kenneth C.Brooks) is actually a multi-instrumentalist/composer/arranger. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he began his music career performing popular music at age 16. He first toured with the R & B group, the “Repetitions”, who performed though out southern Louisiana and southeast Texas. After two years the group disbanded. Then he, along with the bassist and keyboardist began performing R & B instrumentals and Jazz arrangements in small nightclubs of his hometown. This no named combo evolved to a larger group, performing as a backup band for local singing acts in Houston, Texas. With this group, he remained the lead guitarist for one year, performing at local clubs and arenas for audiences of 5000+ in the southeast Texas area. Shortly after, Kenny joined the Air Force, auditioned and was hired as a guitarist for the USAF Band.
The Air Force Band system exposed Kenny to musical theory, composing and arranging for all musical styles. He also gained diverse musical performance experiences at each if his assignments. He performed for European audiences as the lead guitarist with the pop/rock group “Mirage” in West Germany. He was the lead guitarist with the R & B group “Essence” touring Arkansas and Tennessee, the contemporary jazz group, the “9th of June” touring Tokyo, Japan, and a Pop/Rock/Country Combo, “Horizon” touring throughout the state of Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota area. He was also a percussionist with a 35 piece classical ensemble that toured throughout Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. These performances totaled in the hundreds where he and his band mates performed at concert halls, clubs, festivals and special events. During this period, Kenny began studying traditional and contemporary jazz, and found his voice as a Jazz guitarist. While performing with the Illinois based, Chanute Big Band and the Center Stage Big Band of Southern California, he gained valuable knowledge and experience; having performances with jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie and Arturo Sandoval . In 1994, Kenny left the Air Force and moved to Perris, California, where he currently resides. Between writing and recording projects, he is currently a freelance solo artist. | ||
