Harmony Sinfonia Resume

Formed in 2009, Harmony Sinfonia is a vibrant symphony orchestra performing three concerts a year and promoting classical music to audiences within the borough of Lewisham and its neighbouring boroughs. Offering a performance platform for both local amateur players of a high standard and music students from local universities, Harmony Sinfonia also strives to promote contemporary orchestral music by local composers and will feature some of these works in future performances. Harmony Sinfonia aims to work with local music services to provide performance opportunities to school pupils of an advanced standard, and will be developing an outreach programme from Spring 2010 with assistance from the Lewisham Mayor's Fund.

Our debut concert took place in December 2009 at All Saints (Hatcham Park) Church, New Cross and included Bernstein's "Candide" Overture, Holst's ballet music frm "The Perfect Fool", Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 2, and Strauss's Oboe concerto featuring soloist Helen Scarbrough.

Our next concert, on 27th March 2010, will take place at St Mary the Virgin in Lewisham, and will include Weber's "Der Freischutz" overture, Brahms' "Variations on a Theme of Haydn" and Mahler's First Symphony.

Harmony Sinfonia rehearses on a Wednesday evening in Ladywell. Strings and Brass are always welcome, there is a waiting list for wind instruments. For rehearsal details, or to find out more, please visit our website www.harmonysinfonia.co.uk.
